Re: Cornette New Wonder/Victor di C.G. Conn

My cornet dates from 1914. At that time, it was a New Wonder. I believe that in 1926 it was named a 4A Victor. Supposedly, in 1931, the 4A became the 80A. But, this horn has the 4A bore, so I don't know. Mechanically, it is in very good condition, everything works as it is supposed to. It plays OK. ...

Even I have one of those, and I don't even collect cornets!

Re: C.G. Conn la nobile famiglia Director

I think coming to any conclusion about this is beyond me. However, the categorization of instruments whether by model number, functional change, external characteristics, or internal characteristics is important to recognize. A change in the external features may make it more recognizable but is it ...

Blessing History

I'm trying to determine some clues for dating Blessing trumpets.

Does anyone have information on:

When was the Artist Model was first put into production?

When did Blessing start to label pistons with "Wide"?

Re: C.G. Conn Connstellation mouthpiece

I was recently introduced to a page for comparing some mouthpieces, it is interesting.

Re: Consiglio bocchino per trombone Martin Commettee (small shank ?)

My first bit of advice would be to wait for the horn to arrive before shopping for a mouthpiece. I don't really have a good grasp of when each manufacturers converted from short shank to long shank mouthpieces. So, it might be worthwhile to see what seems to fit once you get it. That being said, oft...

Re: Una strana incisione... forse BOE of New York City?

I've tried to find something on this marking, but have not been successful. I'm curious what other markings there may be on the instrument. I tried searching for other similarly marked instruments. And, maybe my search terms were not good enough to bring any results. But, without other examples, it ...

And, here is the Conn Serial list on Horn-u-copia. If you notice any inconsistencies between these lists, and want to suggest corrections, I'm know that I would be happy to entertain any corrections to our list and I'm sure that Conn Loyalist would be interested as well.

Re: C.G. Conn la nobile famiglia Director

I haven’t wandered around enough on this forum to know what may have already been discussed; but do think Marco nailed it when he said, “I have to produce a ‘student’ instrument that sounds good.” Before the instruments that were marketed as Student Model Conns, there were the instruments sold under...

Re: Leggende metropolitane

I suppose it should be obvious that I also prefer vintage instruments. Other than my Xeno bass trombone, all the instruments I have that I treasure are at least 30 years old and most are over 100. I’m a bit conflicted on the idea that the appearance of an instrument adds to the pleasure of playing i...

Re: Leggende metropolitane

It is interesting how this discussion has separated the original question into thoughts about the quality of the instrument and the nature of the market. I think it has always been the case that the manufacturers have found ways to allege that their product is better than their competitors. Sometime...

Re: Rendere il forum appetibile ai socialnetworkisti

I'm a bit reluctant to make comments on here until I'm used to the conventions and environment of this forum, however, I will chime in and support kkongiu's observations. A well moderated forum functions more like a face to face discussion group. People and their opinions are respected, even in disa...
